The Philadelphia Eagles own the 22nd pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and the New Orleans Saints own the 14th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Philadelphia general manager Howie Roseman is not afraid to make trades during the NFL Draft.
Roseman is always willing to gamble and hopefully, it will pay off for him. In the latest NFL Mock Draft given by The Athletic, the Eagles move up from the 22nd pick in the 2024 NFL Draft to the 14th pick in the NFL Draft. Philadelphia would also trade its 50th overall pick in this year’s NFL Draft for that pick by the Saints.
With this selection by the Eagles, The Athletic’s Nick Baumgardner has them select Quinyon Mitchell, the cornerback out of Toledo. His reasoning for this selection was as follows:
“C.J. Gardner-Johnson’s back in Philly, but the Eagles still need help at corner. If either Mitchell or Arnold falls, Philadelphia has the assets to make sure it can land a starter in Round 1. Mitchell, a spectacular athlete and high-character presence, qualifies.”
Mitchell is 6’0″ and weighs 196 lbs. Last season at Toledo, he recorded 41 total tackles, one interception, and had 18 pass deflections. Some people view him as the best cornerback in the 2024 NFL Draft class. Quinyon Mitchell has been skyrocketing in NFL Draft boards for the last few months.
The Philadelphia Eagles Trading With the New Orleans Saints Would Be a Good Move
One of the reasons why the Eagles faltered down the stretch is because the secondary kept getting burned on the back end. The defense was not the same in the second half of the season as it was in the first half of the season.
Darius Slay and James Bradberry did not play well at cornerback last season. Philadelphia needs some young blood at the cornerback position. Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman needs to draft a couple of cornerbacks in the 2024 NFL Draft. There will be some other talented cornerbacks to draft in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft and there would be a couple of second-round selections.
Quinyon Mitchell would be a very good starting point for this franchise. He will be a starting cornerback on day one in this league. The New Orleans Saints do not have many needs and they can afford to trade down. They would just be able to take the best available player with the 22nd selection in the 2024 NFL Draft.
