The Philadelphia Eagles ended the 2023 season in disappointing fashion. After losing the NFC East in the final week of the season to the Dallas Cowboys, they were swiftly eliminated in the wild card round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Many people believe QB Jalen Hurts regressed compared to his 2022 season. Apparently, this is not just limited to fans. It appears that even NFL analysts have forgotten just how good Hurts can be.
Jalen Hurts Not Mentioned Among Best NFC Quarterbacks by ESPN
Earlier this morning, NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky listed his top five quarterbacks in the NFC. His list was surprising, to say the least.
Orlovsky started by saying that Matthew Stafford of the Los Angeles Rams topped his NFC quarterback list. Then, he mentioned that Jordan Love of the Green Bay Packers was his #2 quarterback and Brock Purdy of the San Francisco 49ers was his #3 quarterback.
This seemed to be his clear top three. Following those quarterbacks, Orlovsky went on to say that Kirk Cousins of the Atlanta Falcons and Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions could challenge this list.
Wrong Challenge to This List?
Once Orlovsky revealed his top five quarterbacks in the NFC, someone else on the panel chimed in. This was reporter Jeff Darlington. He responded by saying that he would put Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys above every quarterback that Jeff Darlington mentioned.
However, there is one quarterback that both Orlovsky and Darlington failed to mention. This is Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles. In my opinion, this was the worst omission of all.
Philadelphia Eagles QB Jalen Hurts Is the Best NFC Quarterback
I will just come out and say it. I think Jalen Hurts is still the best quarterback in the NFC. Recently, I ranked the 50 best quarterbacks in the NFL. Hurts was my top-ranked NFC quarterback and the only NFC quarterback in my top seven overall quarterbacks in the NFL.
So, why should Hurts be considered the best quarterback in the NFC? Well, his regression is severely overblown. While he had a lot more interceptions in 2023 (15) compared to 2022 (6), Hurts still had more passing yards and touchdown passes in 2023 compared to 2022.
One bonus Hurts offers compared to any other NFC quarterback is the fact he is a dual threat. He is one of just three quarterbacks who had over 600 rushing yards last season and he tied for the most rushing touchdowns (15) by a quarterback in the NFL last season.
