Philadelphia Eagles: 1 Reason To Be Optimistic For the 2024 Season

The Philadelphia Eagles will have a lot riding on their shoulders for the 2024 season. It appeared as if they were going to be a Super Bowl team once again last year, but a lot spiraled near the end of the season. Philadelphia made the necessary changes this offseason to compete at a high level.

Kellen Moore is the new offensive coordinator and Vic Fangio is the new defensive coordinator for the Philadelphia Eagles. If they miss the playoffs this season, head coach Nick Sirianni and general manager Howie Roseman both could be fired.

They started last season 10-1 before finishing with an 11-6 record and losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The defense was absolutely horrendous down the stretch.

Pro Football Focus Lists the One Reason Why the Philadelphia Eagles Should Be Optimistic Entering the 2024 Season

Pro Football Focus Daniel Wasserman listed one reason for each NFL team as why they should be optimistic entering the 2024 NFL season. The Philadelphia Eagles will have high expectations this season.

The reason that Pro Football Focus gave as to why the Eagles fanbase should be optimistic entering this season is as follows:

“They threw resources at the secondary

The Eagles have elite talent at quarterback, wide receiver, offensive line and defensive line. The one glaring weakness was a 28th-ranked coverage unit. They reunited with safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson and two extremely talented cornerbacks in the draft in Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean. DeJean, in particular, should be an asset in the slot after Philadelphia ranked dead last in the NFL in slot coverage grade last year.

Philadelphia has an extremely strong roster, and their offseason work to fix the secondary should keep them in Super Bowl contention.”

Quinyon Mitchell is projected to be one of the starting cornerbacks on the roster this season. Darius Slay is projected to be the other starting cornerback. James Bradberry is projected to be second on the depth chart at the cornerback position and the Philadelphia Eagles may trade him before the NFL trade deadline.

Cooper DeJean could be in the rotation as a rookie at the safety position, but he is listed as a backup for now. DeJean will also be useful on the special team unit for the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles used their first two-round picks on defensive backs and they need to. The defense was horrendous down the stretch last season and an improved secondary will help this football team out.
