NFL fans were upset following the league’s announcement on the investigation involving tampering allegations by the Philadelphia Eagles and Atlanta Falcons this offseason. The league looked into whether the Eagles violated the league’s anti-tampering policy to recruit Saquon Barkley. They also checked into the Falcons trying to recruit Kirk Cousins and Darnell Mooney.
The Philadelphia Eagles weren’t punished, the Atlanta Falcons were
As previously discussed on GH, the league found insufficient evidence that the Eagles broke any rules. Giants fans were upset by the ruling. However, in the case of the Falcons, Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network reported Atlanta would be punished:
The NFL is docking the #Falcons a 2025 fifth-round pick for violating the league’s anti-tampering policy with Kirk Cousins, Darnell Mooney and Charlie Woerner. The team is also being fined $250,000 and GM Terry Fontenot is being fined $50,000.
The violations are considered logistical/administrative, such as making travel arrangements after players agreed to terms, and did not involve contact prior to the negotiating window, per sources.
NFL fans claim the league is rigged based on the results
Mike Florio with NBC Sports (A Vikings fan) called the results of the league’s investigation into the Falcons “NFL propagated” B.S. and quoted an NFL executive who thought the Falcons got off easy for tampering:
“If I can land the top QB in free agency for a fifth-round pick and $250K, I’ll sign up for that any day.”
NFL fans weren’t happy with the results either. Many think the NFL “rigged” the results to keep the Eagles and Falcons competitive. Here are some of the top posts on X from fans.
