Although the Philadelphia Eagles’ start this season wasn’t that good, they now have a solid chance to turn things around soon. According to an NFL insider, that change can happen in Week 6 of this season.
The Eagles have a history of bouncing back from slow starts, particularly when beginning a season with a 2-2 record. This pattern has shown that early struggles do not necessarily spell doom for their playoff aspirations.
In 2019, for example, the Eagles faced ups and downs after their initial two losses but managed to finish the regular season with a 9-7 record, clinching the NFC East title. A strong December, highlighted by a four-game winning streak, propelled them into the playoffs, despite a Wild Card exit against the Seattle Seahawks.
Similarly, the 2018 season mirrored this trend. After an identical 2-2 start, they rallied to a 9-7 finish, securing a Wild Card spot. Their late-season surge included a thrilling victory over the Chicago Bears in the Wild Card game, although they fell to the New Orleans Saints in the Divisional Round.
Overall, the Eagles have demonstrated a knack for overcoming early setbacks, particularly within the NFC East. Their history suggests that strong finishes, especially in December, often lead to playoff opportunities, proving that a rocky start can still pave the way for a successful season.
Philadelphia Eagles Hoping To Make A Run After NFL Week 5 Bye
While the Eagles’ start this season wasn’t the one they hoped for, things can take a turn for the better after Week 5. This is detailed in Dan Graziano’s analysis for ESPN.
“The Eagles believe they have a chance to get whole following their Week 5 bye, as they’re hopeful to have top wideouts A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith as well as right tackle Lane Johnson back from their injuries. Their next four opponents have a combined record of 5-15, so they know they have an opportunity to get on a roll and keep pace with surprising first-place Washington in the NFC East,” Graziano wrote.
AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Lane Johnson participated fully in the Eagles’ practice as they prepare for their Week 6 matchup against the Cleveland Browns. Brown has been sidelined due to a hamstring injury, while Smith and Johnson missed time after concussions.
Their absence was felt during the Eagles’ recent 33-16 loss to the Buccaneers. Additionally, rookie wideouts Johnny Wilson and Ainias Smith also returned to full participation. The team’s recovery of key players is crucial as they aim to bounce back and strengthen their playoff hopes.
