The New York Jets and Haason Reddick appear no closer today to reaching a new contract than they have been at any point during the veteran pass rusher’s holdout since being acquired in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles back in March.
Reddick has yet to step foot into the Jets’ Florham Park facility, and New York has for the most part publicly been consistent that the team has no interest in trading for him.
Still, there has been speculation in recent weeks that the Eagles could look to re-acquire Reddick as Philadelphia’s pass rush has struggled to generate any meaningful consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks.
However, under NFL rules that cannot happen.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport Monday revealed that a team who trades a player cannot trade to re-acquire him until two years have passed since the original trade.
So, the Eagles will need to look elsewhere to boost a struggling pass rush, and the Jets’ saga with Reddick will likely keep rolling along.
Through his first 114 games, Reddick has compiled 58 sacks with 410 total tackles, but it remains to be seen when — and where, he’ll play his next game amid his current stalemate with the Jets.
