The Philadelphia Eagles are drafting 22nd overall in the 2024 NFL Draft and Amarius Mims from Georgia is an offensive lineman to keep an eye on. The 2024 NFL Draft is rich in talent at the offensive tackle position. Philadelphia always has a very good offensive line and it has been over the years.
Jason Kelce just retired and Lane Johnson is getting older. In the latest Bleacher Report NFL Mock Draft, they have the Eagles selecting Mims from Georgia. He is 6’7″ and weighs 340 lbs. The Bleacher Report Scouting Department’s Reasoning for Philadelphia making this move was as follows:
“The Philadelphia Eagles always want to be loaded in the trenches. As Jason Peters’ career wound down, the Eagles invested draft picks in Jordan Mailata and Andre Dillard in back-to-back classes to ensure left tackle would be addressed. Mailata developed into one of the game’s best blind-side protectors. Philadelphia chose Cam Jurgens in the second round of the 2022 class as the eventual heir apparent to Jason Kelce, who retired this offseason. The same approach should be taken at right tackle. Lane Johnson turns 34 later this year, and he hasn’t played a full slate of regular-season contests since 2015. A better situation couldn’t be found for Georgia’s Amarius Mims.”
This Would Be a Good Pick For the Philadelphia Eagles By Taking Amarius Mims From the Georgia Bulldogs
Philadelphia taking Mims in the 2024 NFL Draft would be a good move by general manager Howie Roseman. Even if they were not able to take in this draft, there would be plenty of other choices available to them like Tyler Guyton from Oklahoma. Graham Barton from Duke, or Kingsley Suamataia from BYU.
What the Eagles really need help with is at the cornerback position, because that was the biggest weak link of this football team by far a season ago. It was why Philadelphia collapsed down the stretch and went one-and-done in the playoffs instead of making another potential Super Bowl run.
There will also be quality starting cornerbacks at 22 for the Philadelphia Eagles to snatch. In reality, they should use the first two selections on cornerbacks, but taking a potential Lane Johnson replacement would not be the worst thing in the world for the franchise either.
Amarius Mims has potential in this league and he would be shown the ropes by Lane Johnson on how to get it done. The Eagles fanbase probably wouldn’t complain about this selection.
