The Kansas City Chiefs have two weeks of rest between the AFC Championship Game and the Super Bowl.
The time off will be helpful for a few key players dealing with injuries, and it could allow quarterback Patrick Mahomes to be 100% before taking on the Philadelphia Eagles at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Feb. 9.
Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts dealt with injuries
Mahomes and his opponent, Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, have been battling injuries in the postseason. Hurts knee injury sustained in the divisional round didn’t seem to affect him when he threw for 246 yards and a touchdown and added three rushing touchdowns in the Eagles’ 55-23 win over the Washington Commanders in the NFC Championship Game.
Mahomes has been dealing with an ankle injury since Kansas City’s 21-7 win over the Cleveland Browns on Dec. 15. The Chiefs rested Mahomes in Week 18 before the team had their bye in the wild card. Despite being off for a couple of weeks, the two-time NFL MVP has remained on the injury report in the divisional round and for the AFC championship.
Mahomes threw for 245 yards and a touchdown in the Chiefs’ 32-29 win over the Buffalo Bills to advance to the Super Bowl. He added 43 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. The ankle didn’t seem to be a problem against the Bills.
The Kansas City Chiefs take Mahomes off injury report
However, Mahomes remains on the injury report. But the Chiefs do have good news. Mahomes was listed as a full participant on Wednesday’s projected injury report. Kareem Hunt, Jaylen Watson, Bryan Cook and Jawaan Taylor were listed as full participants as well.
Today's injury report is an estimation. We did not hold a practice.

Hurts is off the injury list on the Eagles’ report. It looks like both quarterbacks should be near 100% for the Super Bowl.
