Patrick Mahomes’ father has been sentenced to five years of probation. Former baseball player Pat Mahomes Sr. was arrested for the third time on February 24 for DWI (driving while intoxicated). His blood showed an alcohol level of 0.23 when he was checked at a traffic stop.

Judge Kerry L. Russell read Mahomes Sr.’s sentence, which comes at a time when his son, who plays quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, is trying to get his groove back after his rather lackluster performance during the start of this season.

According to the report from KCTV5, the elder Mahomes will have his driver’s license taken from him for a year and a breathalyzer ignition device will have to be installed into his vehicle.

As per the court ruling. Mahomes Sr. would have to be placed under “intense supervision” for the first year of his probation after he spends 10 days in jail. Then he will also have to take AA courses to ensure that the incident doesn’t repeat in the future.

To his credit, Patrick Mahomes’ dad took the court’s sentence in stride and didn’t seem disheartened by it. He said that he hasn’t had a drink since he was arrested for the third time earlier this year.

“Hopefully it will enlighten someone else to take these measures and make sure this doesn’t happen again,” Pat Mahomes Sr. said.

Patrick Mahomes is yet to give his thoughts about his father’s sentence.

Patrick Mahomes’ dad tries to watch all his games

Patrick Mahomes’ father, Pat Mahomes Sr., tries to watch as many of his son’s games as he can. When reporters asked Judge Russell if the former baseball player would be allowed to leave the county to see his quarterback son play, the magistrate left the decision to his probation officer.

“It’s kind of a tradition; I normally go to all the football games. I know he enjoys me being there, so hopefully things will work out and I’ll be able to continue what I’ve been doing,” Mahomes said.

Mahomes Sr. made his MLB debut in 1992, pitching for the Minnesota Twins until 1996 before moving to Boston to play for the Red Sox. He also had a short stint in Japan, playing one season for the Nippon Professional Baseball’s (NPB) Yokohama BayStars in 1997 and 1998. Before he played his final MLB game in 2003 with the Pittsburgh Pirates, he also played with the New York Mets, Texas Rangers, and the Chicago Cubs. He last played with the Grand Prairie AirHogs of the independent American Association in 2009.

Despite Patrick Mahomes’ unimpressive output in the beginning of the season, the Chiefs still managed -to win their first three games. They beat the Baltimore Ravens 27-20 in Week 1, the Cincinnati Bengals 26-25 in Week 2, and the Atlanta Falcons 22-17 in Week 3.

The Chiefs will face the Los Angeles Chargers next on Sunday, September 29, at SoFi Stadium.
