It is common for the players on struggling teams to make poor decisions and that appears to be the case for both the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Carolina Panthers. Clearly Carolina is just phoning in for the rest of the season as they have the worst record in the NFL and Jacksonville has lost four games in a row and is at risk of losing control of the AFC South. In hindsight, this matchup seems like the perfect storm for emotional outbursts from frustrated players.
Panthers Derrick Brown and Jaguars Cam Robinson Ejected after Fight
As someone who has sadly been on a lot of losing teams, I know exactly what coaches tell you when you are finishing out a losing season. The number one comment is typically to be in control of your emotions so a bad season doesn’t spiral out of control and become a nightmare season.
Unfortunately, Carolina defensive tackle Derrick Brown and Jaguars offensive tackle Cam Robinson couldn’t manage to master their emotions as they went after each other during a blowout lead by Jacksonville.

It is understandable for Brown to lose his temper but Jacksonville head coach Doug Peterson should go ballistic on his starting offensive tackle. While Carolina has nothing to play for, Robinson’s team was not only leading 19-0 but is a playoff contender and will be desperately missing their best tackle for the rest of the game and most likely next week pending a suspension.
Jacksonville will likely clinch the division with the win over Carolina but the players should be able to control their emotions better.
Non competitive fighting has become a major issue in the NFL this season as the league announced early in the season that it was going to come down hard on players that get involved in fights outside of gameplay. While they said that, scrums and fights have become common place as the league has completely lost control of its product on the field.
The NFL sadly has started resembling WWE more as the combination of fighting and referee-impacted losses has tarnished the legitimacy of the league. Roger Goodell and the NFL front office will need to focus on cleaning this type of action up as I certainly hesitate to allow my son to watch it. Football is supposed to be the perfect example of men controlling their emotions and harnessing their anger toward a productive goal. When players act out and behave violently after the whistle, it seriously damages the product as the game becomes no better than a bunch of backyard middle schoolers fighting with each other.
