The Green Bay Packers traded up in the 2020 NFL Draft to go after Utah State’s Jordan Love. The move was criticized (heavily mind you) at the time, however, early returns are promising. Love lit the league on fire during the second half of last season and wound up just three points shy of reaching the NFC Championship game.
That earned him a massive contract this off-season. However, Green Bay hasn’t stopped committing resources to the backup QB job. One of those resources will be suiting up for an NFC Rival in 2024.
Former Green Bay Packers QB Signs With NFC Rival
According to a credentialed Buccaneers reporter:
The Bucs are signing former Tulane QB Michael Pratt to their practice squad. Pratt was the No. 3 QB in Green Bay and was released.
The Buccaneers were interested in Pratt as a late Day 3 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Pratt replaces John Wolford as QB3 in Tampa Bay.
The Green Bay Packers selected Pratt in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft, one spot ahead of Tampa Bay. With the Buccaneers’ final pick in the draft, Pratt or tight end Devin Culp were both on the table, and when Pratt went to the Packers, Culp was a no-brainer.
Pratt, who completed 23-of-35 passes (65.7%) for 178 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the Packers’ preseason, replaces Wolford as the team’s third-string quarterback.
