The Oregon Ducks have not played a game since beating the Penn State Nittany Lions in the BIG10 Championship Game. Oregon is 13-0 this season and they are the number one seed in the college football playoffs. In the Rose Bowl, the Ducks will have a rematch with the #8 Ohio State Buckeyes on New Year’s Day.
The winner of that game will face either the #5 Texas Longhorns or the #4 Arizona State Sun Devils in the semifinals. Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning is focused on winning a National Championship this season.
Oregon Ducks Head Coach Dan Lanning Makes Bold Statement About Wanting To Coach In the NFL
There is no question that some NFL teams would want to interview Lanning in the upcoming head coaching cycle. He has been successful with Oregon and some feel like he could make the leap from college to the NFL.
Lanning went onto the Zach Gelb show last week to talk to Zach Gelb about what the future holds for him with Oregon and potentially leaving for the NFL. Dan Lanning said:
“It used to be a goal of mine. At this point, everybody can realize that I’m not going anywhere. “I love what we have here. I’ve got three young boys that love Eugene. We have a lot of unfinished business that we hope to handle, and I’m enjoying the ride. This will be the place that I’m coaching for a long, long time as long as I continue to do my job.”
One of the things that Lanning would not have at the NFL level is recruiting power. He has done a tremendous job of recruiting for the Oregon Ducks. It is one of the reasons why Oregon has a chance to win it all this season. He is only 38 years old and has a lot of potential at the college level moving forward.
Never Won It All
The Ducks have never won a National Title in school history. Oregon came close twice in 2010 against the Auburn Tigers from the SEC Conference and the Ohio State Buckeyes from the BIG10 Conference. This would be an amazing accomplishment if they won it all this season.
If Dan Lanning’s squad wins it all, it will be the second consecutive season that a BIG10 school will have won it all. Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines won it all last season.
