The Oregon Ducks failed to make the College Football Playoff and will see players make decisions about their future. One player who is doing so is running back Bucky Irving as he is eligible for the 2024 NFL draft.
Bucky Irving took to his Instagram account on Monday evening and publicly announced that he is going to be entering the 2024 NFL draft.
“Thank you to the University of Minnesota Football Program, Coach Fleck, Keni Burns, and the Gopher fan base. Thank you to the University of Oregon football program, Coach Dan Lanning, Coach Lock, the Training Staff, and the Duck Nation! My time in Oregon is something that I will never forget and hold dear to my heart. It truly changed my life.
To my teammates, thank you for pushing me on and off the field. We came to work every day and made each other better. We accomplished great things through hard work, dedication, and competition, and I’m grateful for our time together. I am truly bless and humbled by the opportunity to make a lifelong dream come true. That said, I have decided to declare for the 2024 NFL Draft!”
Bucky Irving slowed down a bit at the end of the season but his numbers were still incredible. He finished with 172 rushing attempts for 1,063 yards (6.2 yards per carry) with 10 rushing touchdowns while also grabbing 53 receptions for 395 yards (7.5 yards per catch) with a pair of touchdown receptions. He began his career with the Minnesota Golden Gophers but transferred after his freshman season in 2021 to the Oregon Ducks.
How high can Bucky Irving be selected in the 2024 NFL draft?
Bucky Irving has shown the ability to be a dominant running back throughout the college football season but it is going to be difficult seeing him as anything higher than a third-round pick. There are a few running backs that are going to be selected before him and makes it extremely difficult to see Irving climb into the second round.
Teams are not valuing the running back position either so drafting one high means more money allotted to the position. With guys like Blake Corum, Jonathon Brooks, Trey Benson, Braelon Allen, TreVeyon Henderson and Audric Estime all potentially joining the draft class as well, it is going to be difficult to see Bucky Irving shoot up the draft boards.
