This offseason, for the first time since 2004, the Oklahoma football program did not have an offensive skill player taken in the NFL draft. Oklahoma has a long tradition of producing high-end wide receivers, tight ends, running backs, and quarterbacks, but the 2024 NFL Draft marked the first time in two decades that the program did not produce one worth of draft consideration. Offensive tackles Tyler Guyton and Walter Rouse led the way for Oklahoma in the most recent draft, with each Sooners player selected making their living in the trenches. However, two skill players signed as undrafted free agents post-draft, wideout Drake Stoops and tight end Austin Stogner.
Stoops will have an opportunity to make a name for himself with the Los Angeles Rams, but on Wednesday, he earned another chance to play professionally. With their tenth-round selection in the 2024 UFL College Draft, the Arlington Renegades selected Stoops.

On Wednesday, the United Football League held its annual college draft. With their tenth and final pick, the Arlington Renegades selected former Oklahoma football standout Drake Stoops. UFL teams can draft any rookie if they went undrafted in the subsequent NFL draft. The hope for Arlington remains that Stoops will find more opportunities in the UFL than in the NFL.

Also worth noting is that the Arlington Renegades are led by Stoops’ father, Bob. The elder Stoops led Oklahoma football from 1999 to 2016, highlighted by an undefeated national title run in 2000. Stoops won Big 12 Coach of the Year six times while posting a 191-48 record in Norman, Oklahoma. Drake Stoops landed in Oklahoma two years after his father’s retirement.
Stoops: Solid College Career

Drake Stoops, formerly of Oklahoma football, had a solid college career spanning six seasons. A former walk-on, Stoops played a reserve role during his first four seasons. Stoops recorded 41 receptions, 520 receptions, and four touchdowns during that stretch. The Norman native took a step forward in 2022, recording 39 receptions, 393 yards, and three touchdowns. However, he saved his best statistical performances for his last season, posting 84 receptions, 962 yards, and ten scores.
The five-foot-ten, 190-pound pass-catcher shined late in the season, recording at least ten receptions and 100 yards in three of his final five games. His best game came against West Virginia in mid-November, collecting ten receptions for 164 yards and three touchdowns.
