Ohio State is preparing for an intense season in 2024. Many players who were expected to enter the NFL Draft this spring are opting to return to school, driven by the desire to win it all.
Since many players returned to school, many who thought they would get a chance in 2024 were still sitting on the bench.
Ohio State Saw A Lot Of Players Come Back
Many players came back at the defensive back position, including corners Denzel Burke and Jordan Hancock and safety Lathan Ransom. Ohio State added Alabama’s Caleb Downs, the best safety in the transfer portal.
Only a few spots are up for grabs in the defensive back room, and now that spring practice is over, many players from around college football will be heading into the new spring portal.
The Spring Portal Has Opened
Just like the portal that opens up after the season, players can enter the portal again when spring practices are over, but there are some rules to the spring portal, such as an SEC player can’t transfer to another SEC team without sitting out.
That’s why we see a lot more players enter the winter portal, so they have no limitations on where they can go, but some don’t enter because they want to see where they are at during spring camp, and for one Buckeye player realized, he won’t probably see much time on the field.
Cedrick Hawkins Plans To Enter The Portal
According to Hayes Fawcett from On3.com, Ohio State defensive back Cedrick Hawkins plans to enter the Transfer Portal. According to On3.com, Hawkins was a four-star recruit in the 2023 class.

I’m assuming Hawkins thought he would come to the Buckeyes, sit for a season, and then come for a starting job. Still, with all the players returning and transfers coming in, Hawkins probably saw no path to the field and decided it was better to go somewhere else.
