The college football playoffs have been set for almost three days now, and Ohio State fans still can’t believe they ended up with the 8th seed.
The Buckeyes’ second-season loss was to Michigan, which puts them behind schools like Penn State, Texas, and Notre Dame. However, the Nittany Lions and Longhorns lost on conference championship weekend, giving them the same number of losses as Ohio State.
Ohio State Should Be Ranked Higher
The Buckeyes defeated Penn State head-to-head at Happy Valley but did not jump over them in the rankings. Texas has no big wins outside of beating Texas A&M, which hardly counts.
Fox Sports college football analyst was not a fan of the Buckeyes getting put behind Texas, Penn State, and Notre Dame and stated,” Ohio State is better than the three teams the committee put ahead of them:”
Does Texas deserve to be the 5-seed with no Top 25 wins? 🧐🫣@joelklatt says based on resume, Ohio State is better than the 3 teams the committee put ahead of them 😅 pic.twitter.com/cSzee8wwHu

Klatt is 100% right here, but the committee did not penalize teams that reached their conference title game and lost. That’s why Texas and Penn State barely dropped and why SMU still made the playoffs.
If the committee were to drop every school that lost their conference title game far, then teams wouldn’t want to play in it in the future, so they tried to save those games.
There is no right way to do this, and it doesn’t matter who gets what seed because some fanbases will be upset regardless.
Let’s stop discussing who got what seed and settle it on the football field this winter.
