Ohio State head coach Ryan Day has come under fire at the end of the season. For the third year in a row, they have lost their matchup with their hated rival, the Michigan Wolverines. This led to many people questioning his decisions especially one at the end of the first half. Day talked about his decisions in the game and gave an honest evaluation in a recent interview.

Ohio State Coach Ryan Day Gives Evaluation Of Coaching
Day was overall positive on performance but did admit to questioning his decision at the end of the first half.
“Probably different than I did the year before. I think, if you talk to the guys, I think we had a really good plan leading up to the game. I think that week there was a really good vibe around the team.
“You look back on a couple of decisions that you make… for instance, at the end of the first half. You know, if we make the field goal, you probably feel better about that decision. Fourth-and-2, 30 seconds to go, maybe if we get a couple more first downs, we have a shorter field goal or maybe even have a chance to score a touchdown there.”
It was the field goal decision that many people point to. The Buckeyes had a chance to either take the lead or get a much easier field goal. Day elected to kick the 50+ yarder and it missed.

The Field Goal Decision
Day gave some insight into the decision. He felt the wind was with them and he wanted to try and get some points on the board before halftime. If the team missed the 4th down play, it would have had the same result as the missed field goal. Ultimately, hindsight is 20/20. While the field goal was a huge part of the game, the Buckeyes had many other opportunities to beat the Wolverines.

There is going to be a lot of pressure on Ryan Day in 2024. Ohio State fans have been spoiled in the last decade in beating Michigan and they are starting to become restless with this losing streak.
