There have been multiple staff changes on the offensive side of the ball at Ohio State this offseason, and that continues as the Buckeyes add Billy Fessler as an Analyst. Ryan Day made it clear this offseason that there needed to be changes on the offensive side of the ball bringing in a new playcaller in former UCLA head coach Chip Kelly. Along with this move came the departure of former quarterback coach Corey Dennis. Bringing in Billy Fessler will bring more assistance to the quarterback room.
Sources: Ohio State is set to hire Billy Fessler as an analyst to work with quarterbacks. Fessler is a former OSU graduate assistant who coached quarterbacks at Akron for two seasons (2022-23), including serving as OC in 2023.

Billy Fessler played his college ball as a quarterback at Penn State from 2014 to 2018, where he mostly served as a backup only completing one pass in his career.
After his collegiate career, Fessler joined the Ohio State staff as a graduate assistant where he worked with the quarterbacks under head coach Ryan Day. During this time Ohio State quarterbacks were very productive and this thrust Fessler’s name into the coaching carousel for other jobs.
In 2022 Billy Fessler joined the staff at Akron University as their quarterback coach. After just one season Fessler was promoted to offensive coordinator for the Zips.
This offseason Fessler accepted a position to be the quarterback coach at UCLA under Chip Kelly, however, when Kelly left, Fessler’s job was in limbo. Until June 16, 2024, when Fessler joined the Ohio State staff as an analyst.

After CJ Stroud left campus to enter the NFL Draft, Kyle McCord was next in line to be Ohio State’s quarterback, and his first season was turbulent, to say the least. When the regular season concluded McCord immediately entered the transfer portal and transferred to Syracuse.
McCord’s departure gave Ohio State the chance to see some of their younger quarterbacks get live game reps in a bowl game against Missouri. Unfortunately, sophomore Devin Brown went down with an injury in the first quarter, which forced the Buckeyes to play freshman Lincoln Kienholz who did not appear ready for action.
The struggles of the young Buckeye quarterbacks have led the media and fans to question the development of Ohio State’s quarterbacks. Bringing in a new staff surrounding the position should bode well for the Buckeyes.
