College football fans reacted on social media to the news this week that Northwestern State canceled the remainder of their season following the tragic death of one of their players.
Ronnie Caldwell, a junior safety at NSU, died on Oct 12 from multiple gunshot wounds. The police are investigating the death as a homicide. An NSU football player has been arrested in connection to the death. However, no arrests have been made for the murder of Caldwell.
The tragic events caused NSU to put out a public statement Thursday about the school’s decision to cancel its remaining schedule.
NSU also announced Brad Laird resigned from his job as head coach of the program. Laird cited the “emotional burden” from Caldwell’s death as a reason for his resignation.
College football fans are praying for the NSU program
Football fans took to social media to react to NSU’s decision to cancel the rest of the season. Some fans think the other players on the team should have a right to play. (NSU’s statement seemed to indicate players were in on the decision to cancel the season.)
Other fans are praying for the program as a whole at a difficult time.
Very disappointed in this decision. Terrible example for the students to quit when life throws you a terrible situation and not to mention a no win season.
