The Pittsburgh Steelers offense should be better this season in every unit except for one: the wide receiver corps. The Steelers lost one of their best wide receivers, Diontae Johnson, in a trade to the Carolina Panthers earlier in the offseason.
George Pickens is the clear WR1

George Pickens will be new quarterback Russell Wilson’s No. 1 receiver this season. After that, the Steelers don’t have a lot of depth. The Steelers spent three of their first five draft picks overhauling the offensive line. One of their other picks in the top five, Michigan standout Roman Wilson, needs to step up this season.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have a bad situation at WR2

According to Mark Kaboly with The Athletic, the Steelers have not emerged with a clear No. 2 receiver option during the voluntary portion of OTAs. He thinks Van Jefferson is the No. 2 option at the moment:
Right now I’d say Van Jefferson, but to be honest, you can throw Watkins, Patterson, Calvin Austin III, Scotty Miller, Marquez Callaway and Denzel Mims in there as well. Yeah, it’s not a good situation, and the Steelers know that. It would show a lack of awareness and urgency if they don’t add a legit No. 2 before the season starts. And I think they will.
Roman Wilson isn’t turning heads at OTAs

Wilson’s name isn’t even mentioned in the paragraph. That’s somewhat concerning for the Steelers before training camp. In fact, Kaboly doesn’t mention Wilson has a rookie who is standing out at OTAs:
“So, Kaboly, how do the rookies look? I get that question a lot this time of the year and can usually offer up an opinion. Not this year. The Steelers drafted an offensive tackle, a center and a guard within the first four rounds and then put them through nothing but drills. Whoever tells you Troy Fauntanu, Zach Frazier or Mason McCormick “look good” is lying to you. Ask me about a week into training camp at Latrobe.”
No opinion on Roman?
The Steelers need to add a wide receiver if they want to take advantage of Russell Wilson’s contract on the veteran minimum. There has been smoke about the Steelers trying to hit the trade market for a pass catcher. It remains to be seen if they can land a blockbuster trade or settle for a picked-over free-agent market.
