Roger Goodell backed up the NFL officials Wednesday
Roger Goodell answered questions Wednesday at a press conference ahead of the Super Bowl. The NFL commissioner answered questions on topics from diversity to the future of NFL scheduling. One answer had the NFL community buzzing. It had to do with NFL officiating.
It was a rough year for officiating. As camera technology improves, fans watching at home saw more bad calls being called live this season. The word “rigged” was trending on Twitter all through Championship Weekend. The Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs favored from questionable calls.
According to Tom Pelissero with the NFL Network, Goodell said the officiating had never been better than during the 2022 season. Goodell said the referees are held to a high standard and will try to improve for next season:
“The reality is our officials are held to an incredibly high standard. Will we try to get better? You betcha.”

The NFL world responds
NFL refs have a tough job. That’s why the league should look at using more technology to help aid the refs on the field. But the NFL is taking its time implementing changes. For instance, we had to wait on broken chains a couple of times in the playoffs.
Following Roger Goodell’s statement, NFL fans took to Twitter to mock the commissioner’s sentiment. Here are the best takes on Twitter on Goodell backing up the refs.
