The NFL world has been speaking out in support or in frustration against Harrison Butker‘s now viral speech. Butker made some quite controversial statements in his speech about women and the transgender community, and now Chiefs owner Clark Hunt‘s wife and daughter as well as other women around the NFL revealed their opinions on the speech.

Butker made numerous comments in his full speech that had fans even calling for him to get cut because of it. Here is a short part of his speech directed at the women in the crowd:
“I think it is you, the women, who have had the most diabolic lies told to you,” Butker said. “Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world. I can tell you that my beautiful wife Isabelle would be the first to say her life truly started when she started living her vocation as a wife and as a mother.”
While the NFL has already released a statement saying that they do not agree with Butker’s comments and feel they are divisive, now, Kansas City Chiefs owner, Clark Hunt’s wife and daughter took quite a nuanced and thoughtful approach to his comments.
Tavia Hunt, the wife of the owner, does not think that this wild criticism of Butker is warranted. She took to social media in a very length post to share her own experiences as a mother. She made it crystal clear that she wants her daughters to have all the opportunity to chase their dreams in their careers, but also hopes they find the best partner in life.
“I’ve always encouraged my daughters to be highly educated and chase their dreams. I want them to know that they can do whatever they want (that honors God),” she said.
“But I also want them to know that I believe finding a spouse who loves and honors you as or before himself and raising a family together is one of the greatest blessings this world has to offer.”
Then she directed her words to those that are criticizing Butker, saying:
“Affirming motherhood and praising your wife, as well as highlighting the sacrifice and dedication it takes to be a mother, is not bigoted. It is empowering to acknowledge that a woman’s hard work in raising children is not in vain,” she said.
“Countless highly educated women devote their lives to nurturing and guiding their children. Someone disagreeing with you doesn’t make them hateful; it simply means they have a different opinion. Let’s celebrate families, motherhood and fatherhood. Our society desperately needs dedicated men and women to raise up and train the next generation in the way they should go.”
Tavia and Clark’s daughter Gracie also shared quite a thoughtful message about this whole speech when asked about the backlash that Butker is getting.
“Well, I can only speak from my own experience, which is I’ve had the most incredible mom who had the ability to stay home and be with us as kids growing up. And I understand that there are many women out there who can’t make that decision,” Hunt said, via Fox News Digital. “But for me and my life, I know it was really formative and in shaping me and my siblings into who we are.”
When Gracie was asked if she understood where Harrison was coming from with his speech she said:
“For sure, and I really respect Harrison and his Christian faith and what he’s accomplished on and off the field.”
It is interesting to hear from both these women that they did not have any issues with what he was saying. Perhaps that can be because he is a key star player for their team, but it is still nuanced none the less. Other women in the league do not share this same sentiment however.
Matthew Stafford’s Wife Kelly Comments On Viral Speech

While both the Hunt women thought Butker’s criticism has gone too far, Matthew Stafford’s wife Kelly thinks the criticism is totally fair. She took to social media and released a very lengthy statement on the vireal speech.
“Building men up and not tearing them down is important. Building women up and not tearing them down is important. Everyone has a choice of what they want his/her life to look like. It’s not up to anyone else or society. The more society tells women where they belong, the more imposter syndrome starts to creep in, that they don’t belong because that’s what society is telling them. I’m happy that I thrive at home with being the homemaker but that’s not every woman’s story nor should it have to be,” Stafford wrote.
“Some women choose not to stay home and some women don’t have the luxury to choose. We all might not agree on everything but I think we all want the same end goal, a better world for our kids. I think supporting and encouraging women and men in whatever roles they choose is a great first step towards that goal.”
It is clear that women around the league feel differently about what Butker was saying. While it is totally fair for Butker to say exactly what he wants, it also completely fair for people to disagree.
