With Week 1 of the NFL season in the books, there are a few teams that have suffered some key injuries. These could either leave those players sidelined for a while or keep them out for the rest of the 2023 season.
Here is a breakdown of the NFL Week 1 injuries and updates from around the league:
Baltimore Ravens Running Back J.K. Dobbins Injury in Week 1
JK Dobbins suffered a torn Achilles injury on Sunday for the Baltimore Ravens. This occurred during the first half against the Houston Texans. John Harbaugh later told the media that Dobbins suffered an ACL tear. JK Dobbins will be out for the remainder of the season.
In the last two previous seasons, the Baltimore running back had only played in seven games because of knee injuries. The Ravens do have depth at the running back position, so their head coach believes that they will be fine moving forward.
Green Bay Packers Running Back Aaron Jones
Packers running back Aaron Jones scored on a run play and a 35-yard pass play from Jordan Love on Sunday. After the game, he felt as though he could have returned to play if he was needed, but was able to jog off the field. Head coach Matt Lafleur said they are still evaluating Jones’ injury and will see where he stands for Week 2 against the Falcons.
He got the offense going in the second half against the Bears in Week 1, which led to the Packers’ victory. Hopefully, he will be ready to go in the next game.
New York Jets Quarterback Aaron Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers was traded in the offseason to the New York Jets. After spending 16 seasons with the Green Bay Packers, Rodgers started in his first game Monday night in a new uniform.
Unfortunately, Aaron Rodgers was only able to take three snaps before hitting the turf with an apparent ankle or Achilles injury. He is set to have an MRI on Tuesday to determine the injury suffered on Monday night.
Cleveland Browns Offensive Tackle Jack Conklin
Jack Conklin suffered a leg injury on Sunday against the Bengals. He was carted off the field in the second quarter. The Browns head coach stated that early tests did not show positive signs for the veteran offensive tackle.
Pittsburgh Steelers Defensive Tackle Cameron Heyward
Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle Cameron Heyward left the game in Week 1 against the 49ers. He did come in, and play a few more snaps later in the game. It is said that Heyward will be out for a few weeks.
A possible option for the defensive tackle could include surgery after evaluation is done.
Las Vegas Raiders Wide Receiver Jakobi Meyers
Jakobi Meyers suffered a head injury in Week 1. During the game, he caught nine passes, scoring two touchdowns. Meyers will be in concussion protocol up until Week 2. He could be a big-time target for Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garrapolo this NFL season.
Los Angeles Chargers Wide Receiver Mike Williams
Mike Williams also suffered a head injury in the second quarter of the Chargers game. He later returned with four catches for 45 yards as the LA Rams lost to the Miami Dolphins in Week 1.
Packers Linebacker Quay Walker
On Sunday against the Chicago Bears, starting linebacker Quay Walker had a big pick-six against Justin Fields. Upon reaching the end zone, Walker was hit in the helmet by a Bears defender. After that spectacular interception and return, it was made known that Quay Walker was being evaluated for a concussion.
Head coach Matt Lafleur gave an update on Walker’s status on Monday, saying that he is in concussion protocol, and, unfortunately, could miss some time for the Green Bay Packers on defense. They could definitely use Quay Walker at the linebacker position to fill holes and make big plays for the Packers’ secondary.
