Following the shooting tragedy in Kansas City earlier today, the NFL released an official statement.
“We are deeply saddened by the senseless shooting that occurred today near the end of the rally in Kansas City for the Chiefs. Our thoughts are with the victims and everyone affected. We are grateful for the quick and thorough response of law enforcement and emergency personnel.”

The NFL did the right thing by releasing a statement only hours after the event that occurred just as the celebration was ending for the Kansas City Chiefs and their fanbase, but the bottom line is it won’t mean much to the families of those who lost their lives or are fighting to live in the hospital right now. It is becoming far too common for big, crowded events to become the center of tragedy.
One solution is to avoid having the parades at all. While I realize this isn’t the fun answer, if it means saving lives and protecting children, it’s the obvious one. Unfortunately, there is not enough security or available safety measures to protect everyone when there are thousands of people gathered in a public place where there is no security entry or exit.
The bottom line is it’s almost a miracle that more weren’t killed. With thousands of people and many shots going off, it’s crazy that only one out of the 23 shots has died. I’m all for another solution, but it may be time to put parades off to the side and perhaps have some kind of celebration event inside the stadium where security measures can be better taken.
