The NFL draft is approaching and this year has a stacked lineup of quarterback prospects for the 2024 draft. Caleb Williams is at the top of that list and is looking like the sure fire #1 pick of the draft. Caleb is getting some of the greatest hype we have ever seen a prospect get and he will enter the NFL with a ton of pressure to perform. However, the elite prospect is going to enter the league without an agent.
NFL Prospect Caleb Williams Won’t Have Agent
According to ESPN Bengals insider Ben Baby, the top prospect Caleb does not have any agent listed on the NFL Players Association list. That is probably going to remain that way and that indicates that Williams will not have an agent for the near to long future.
While this is quite uncommon especially for some of the best players in the league, there have been other elite players that have went in this direction too. Most notably, the reigning MVP Lamar Jackson. Lamar has managed to negotiate an incredible deal for himself when he signed a $260 Million contract with the Baltimore Ravens.
The Risks Of Not Having An Agent
There are a few risks with not having an agent even with guys like Lamar being an exception to that rule. Not having an agent makes the process of getting a contract take much longer and usually has hiccups in the completion of a deal.
The agent also serves the player as a public relations head to deal with many of the things the player does not need to deal with. The agent can help a player focus on the game, and not on their contract negotiations. An agent does however take a nice chunk of the players contract and that may be something Williams does not want. Maybe Williams is just waiting for the right agent, or he wants to keep as much of his NFL contract as possible.
