Earlier in this week the Pittsburgh Steelers were reportedly not interested in bringing in any new quarterbacks to compete for a starting job and that they are happy with their quarterback room as it is. While there have been rumors that the team may be interested in Russel Wilson to come in to be the starter, it is now being reported that head coach Mike Tomlin and the team is not interested in Wilson as the starter.
Peter King Says Pittsburgh Steelers Are Making A Mistake

According to Pittsburgh reporter Gerry Dulac, Mike Tomlin and the team is not going to add any quarterbacks and they want to ride with Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph. The team is not interested in Wilson, Kirk Cousins, or Justin Fields. Dulac was quoted writing:
“In any event, the Steelers are not interested in bringing in a quarterback who wants to be a starter,” Dulac wrote. “That would include Justin Fields and Kirk Cousins, and probably even Russell Wilson, who has a connection with the Steelers. They are committed to giving Pickett a third season to see if he is the guy to do more than just win a playoff game — something they haven’t done in a franchise-record seven years.”
Pickett has been nothing special in his first two years but the team seems to really believe in him. Peter King amongst others, is very skeptical about this decision and he called it a “colossal” mistake, as it will continue the teams trend of not winning playoff games.
Peter King Comments On Steelers Decision

King had a lot of comment son this decision, especially because the other teams in their division are stacked with very good quarterbacks. He was quoted saying:
I think, speaking of the Steelers, longtime beat man on the team Gerry Dulac reported the other day that the Steelers “are not interested in bringing in a quarterback who wants to be a starter.” Come again? In a division with Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson and Deshaun Watson, the Steelers would actually choose to enter camp with Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph (should he sign in free agency with Pittsburgh)? That sounds like a colossal misjudgment of your quarterback position.
It is hard to argue with King’s points as the team does not look like they can compete with their division if Pickett or Rudolph is their starter. However, this how the Steelers do business and loyalty is a special thing in Pro sports. They are not going to turn their back on their first round pick in his third year, and we will see just how big a mistake that is come next season.
