NFL star Patrick Mahomes has been in the spot light since he took over as the starter for the Kansas City Chiefs, and while he is coming off back to back Super Bowls, his father may face up to 10 years in prison. Patrick Mhaomes Sr. has now been formally indicted on the felony of a DWI he was charged with during Super Bowl week.
Patrick Mahomes Sr. Facing Up To 10 Years In Prison
Mahomes Sr. was arrested on Feb. 3 while driving in Texas. He had an open beer and was pulled over after showing signs of intoxication. The police report revealed that Mahomes admitted to drinking at a bar before driving. His mugshot went viral at the time, and now he is being formally indicted.
Mahomes Sr. has been arrested 6 times for DWI which is why this could land him in prison for a very long time. He was charged twice in 2012, twice in 2018, and once more in 2019. The Chiefs quarterback made a quick comment on the situation ahead of the Super Bowl, but wanted to clearly keep this family matter private.
“He’s doing good,” Patrick said. “I don’t really want to get into it too much, but he’s doing good for whatever the situation is. … It’s a family matter. I’ll just keep it to the family, and that’s all I really have to say at this point.”
Patrick Mahomes Sr. Could Be In Huge Trouble
With this being Mahomes’ 6th arrest for DUI there could be very serious consequences for him. He had already served 40 days in jail for one of his prior offenses, and he could now even face up to ten years in prison! Once convicted of three or more DWI offenses the maxim sentence is ten years.
We will have to wait and see if he is convicted on all counts and whether or not he will have to serve time in prison. Either way, this will be tough for Patrick to deal with at the they hope to go for a third straight Super Bowl.
