The NFL is in full off season mode, and while there are many players that have been cut that will quickly find a new team, it is reported that Russell Wilson may not. The Denver Broncos announced they are releasing the quarterback ending his time with the team. The trade for Russ is now thought of to be the worst trade in NFL history. While Wilson is thought of as one of the best free agents as his position, it has been reported that he is not getting much intrigue from teams around the league.
NFL Analyst James Palmer Says No Teams Have Interest In Russell Wilson
NFL Network’s James Palmer revealed on Thursday that there are not really any teams that have real interest in signing Russell at the moment.
“I spoke to multiple quarterback-needy teams today, and all of them told me right now that Russell Wilson is not an option,” Palmer said.
Palmer did note however, that this could change once free agency starts. The draft will also impact teams interest on Russell if they are not able to get who they want in the draft. It is shocking though that a Super Bowl champion like Russell does not have any interest at the moment. His time in Denver has completely changed the way the team around the league view him.
Russell Wilson Will Be On A Team In 2024
Denver released their quarterback even though they will owe him $39 million this year with him not even being on the team. This is probably one of the reasons that the team had to cut their All Pro safety Justin Simmons in a shocking move on Thursday.
Those financial issues will not apply to another team though, so it is highly probable that a team in the league will sign the quarterback for very cheap as he is set to make top money from Denver. He could theoretically sign for the veteran minimum which would help a team like the Pittsburgh Steelers or the Minnesota Vikings.
While it is not probable that we will ever see Wilson perform to the same degree as he did back when he was with the Seattle Seahawks, he clearly still has good football left in him and is definitely a starter in the league. Denver will look to get a replacement in the draft, and Russell will need to wait a bit till after the draft to see which teams will have interest.
