NFL Insider Reveals Next Quarterback Who Could Get Benched After Bryce Young

The Carolina Panthers’ decision to bench Bryce Young has given other teams in the league the same idea to their underperforming quarterbacks. For NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, though, the likeliest candidate to follow Young’s path is New England Patriots’ Jacoby Brissett.

As the New England Patriots prepare for their Week 4 matchup, discussions are intensifying around rookie Drake Maye and whether he might soon replace Brissett as the starter. After a promising Week 1 victory, the team has faced two consecutive losses, raising concerns about their offensive performance. Currently ranked last in the league for passing yards, the Patriots are struggling to find rhythm.

Brissett has shown flashes of potential but has also faced challenges, particularly with a shaky offensive line that has hindered his ability to perform consistently. With injuries impacting key players, including the left tackle position, the Patriots have been cautious about making significant changes. However, the coaching staff is reportedly impressed with Maye’s development and readiness to step up.

The pressure is mounting for the Patriots to ignite their offense, and many are watching to see if Maye will get the nod in the near future. If the team’s struggles continue, the coaching staff may feel compelled to transition to the rookie quarterback sooner rather than later.

Brissett’s subpar performance has left a lot of fans and critics wanting more. According to NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, he’s the next likeliest candidate to get benched after Bryce Young, as seen in an analysis for ESPN.

Fowler: The heat is squarely on Minshew, but his Week 2 upset of Baltimore might be enough to buy him another week. Still, it’s important to remember that some with the Raiders thought O’Connell had a slight edge coming out of offseason workouts/minicamp, and neither quarterback truly separated himself in the preseason.

But I’ll go with New England. The Drake Maye chatter will only mushroom from here. And the sense I got all offseason was that Jacoby Brissett would be the starter but might need to win enough games to keep the job.

Where are you at with the Will Levis situation in Tennessee? Receiver Tyler Boyd’s comments to the media that the Titans’ passing game hasn’t found its chemistry yet stood out to me. I suspect Tennessee will give Levis more time to develop, but he must make better decisions — or Mason Rudolph will be the one making them.

Just recently, the Panthers benched Young, the first overall pick in the 2023 Draft, after a disappointing start to the season. Young, who expressed his surprise and disappointment, struggled with just 245 passing yards and three interceptions in two games. Veteran Andy Dalton will take over, leading the Panthers to their first win this season against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Fans are eager for a change, hoping that Maye’s talent can revitalize the offense. The upcoming game against the 49ers could be pivotal; if Brissett struggles again, it might just mark the end of his stint as the starter, ushering in a new era for the Patriots with Maye at the helm.
