There is a former NFL running back who is facing 50 years in prison per a new report from CBS Philadelphia on Thursday. The former Philadelphia Eagles running back is being charged with some intense fraud accusations.
Specifically, Wendell Smallwood is being charged with defrauding the federal COVID-19 relief programs, according to the U.S. Government. The authorities announced the news on Thursday, and NFL fans have been quick to erupt over the wild case.
NFL Fans React To Wendell Smallwood Fraud Case
The former back and Super Bowl champion is facing three charges of fraud; wire fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and conspiracy to defraud the Internal Revenue Service. Wendell won the Super Bowl with the Eagles and was sin the league from 2016-2021. He is now facing up to 50 years in prison for defrauding the government.
He reportedly submitted false information in order to getthousands of dollars from the government in COVID-19 relief money.

Federal prosecutors also accuse Smallwood of being involved in a kickback conspiracy to defraud COVID-19 relief programs and lying to tax authorities.
According to court documents, Smallwood applied for COVID-19 Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) using “defunct or recently registered businesses and claimed false business operations” in applications to the Small Business Administration.
Court documents also allege Smallwood submitted false information to the Paycheck Protection Program and was involved in a tax fraud conspiracy.
