The NFL has appeared to have made their decision on the season opening game in Brazil for 2024. It sounds like the Green Bay Packers will be opening their 2024 season abroad in Brazil this upcoming year. While the Philadelphia Eagles have already been chosen to play in Brazil, all signs are pointing to their opponent being the Packers.
NFL Report Has Green Bay Packers Playing Brazil
Per NFL and ESPN insider Rob Demovsky, all the whispers are saying that the Packers will be heading to Brazil to face off against the Eagles in their week 1 matchup. That should make for an amazing season opener for South American fans!
“Based on Packers president Mark Murphy’s comments this morning, it sounds like they’re preparing to open the season in Brazil against the Eagles,” Demovsky reported. “Speaking before the annual Tailgate Tour departed, Murphy said: ‘We’re either the first- or second-most popular team in Brazil.'”
The official announcement is expected to be coming shortly, as the Packers front office thinks the NFL will make the announcement “any day now.” With Murphy adding:
“Also, this is very important for the league. … If we’re chosen, we’ll gladly go.”
The NFL Has Gone Global
The league has been putting a major emphasis on turning American football into a global sport for over the last decade. What started with one NFL game in Wembley Stadium in London has now turned into a huge enterprise of games that are player around the world.
Tom Brady has the record for games played in other countries, as he had played a game in Germany, London, and Mexico! Now the NFL seems to be making it a very regular occurrence with multiple games a year happening in multiple countries outside the U.S. every year.
The league is eyeing the prospect of having a permanent team outside the U.S. Only time will tell where that new team could be.
