Many New York Giants fans were sick to their stomach when they heard that their star Saquon Barkley would be leaving the team to join their arch rivals the Philadelphia Eagles. While head coach Brian Daboll was wishing the running back well, the Giants owner is right there with all the fans and quite furious over Barkley’s decision to choose an arch rival.
New York Giants John Mara Is Sick From Saquon Barkley
When Mara spoke with the media on Monday, he was quite candid about his disappointment in Saquon Barkley’s decision to join the Eagles. Mara admitted that when he heard that news it made him ‘sick’ as just Barkley leaving would be tough, but to go to their worst rival just makes it worse.
“John Mara said he ‘hated’ seeing Saquon Barkley leave — texted him and told him it made him “sick” shortly after he signed,” said Connor Hughes of The Athletic. “The fact he left for #Eagles made it a tougher pill to swallow. Said he was ‘hoping’ Barkley would be back. Referenced the two contracts the #Giants offered him. Said he told Joe Schoen he ‘wouldn’t be thrilled’ with him going in division.”
Mara long with many New York Giants fans are hating on the running back for his decision and they will now have to face him twice a year. There are many revenge games set up for next season, but Barkley’s return to New York will be the best one.
Brian Daboll Wishes His Former Running Back Well
While Mara was his usual self in his response to Barkley’s departure, head coach Brian Daboll was much more politically correct. Daboll seems to understand that the team was not paying Barkley enough nor treating him the right way. It appears that the coach new Barkley would be shipping out.
“This is what it is every year in the NFL. You meet great people, whether it’s coaches, players, staff members, and unfortunately everybody doesn’t stick together the entire time, it’s not what it was 30, 40 years ago,” Giants head coach Brian Daboll told the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero last week.
“I’ve got a tremendous amount of respect for Saquon and all the players that went on to other places. It’s a special group when you’re going through an NFL season, you’ve got to go through ups and downs. Wish him all the best except when he is playing the Giants.”
