The Kansas City Chiefs may not be in Kansas City in the near future, that is somewhat dependent on a Jackson County vote on a new stadium sales tax this Tuesday. While the Chiefs ownership and president has made numerous pleas to the fans and residents to vote in their favor, as the time for the vote is approaching, owner Clark Hunt is trying to make areal push for the vote to go in their favor and to stay in Kansas City.
Kansas City Chiefs Owner Clark Hunt Makes Final Pleas For Vote
Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt knows that this vote can establish the Chiefs in Kansas City for years to come, or it may open the door to a relocation. This is insane for the best team of the league, in the middle of a dynasty, that they would consider relocation.
Hunt took to the media to stress the voters and remind them that the Chiefs are not hoping for a tax increase, on the contrary they want an extension of the current sales tax at the exact same percentage. Hunt believes the new agreement would help taxpayers and fans as $200 million would be going back to the county.
“A YES vote on April 2 is the foundational support for maintaining Arrowhead Stadium and ensuring that it remains one of the top facilities in the NFL,” Hunt said. “Over the past decade, many NFL franchises have relocated or built new stadiums. Over that same time frame, the Chiefs have committed to Jackson County, the team has brought home multiple championships, and Arrowhead has earned the right to host the largest tournament on the planet, FIFA World Cup 2026. We are ready to extend this partnership, and we hope you are too.”
President Mark Donovan Says Team Will Explore All Options
President of the Kansas City Chiefs Mark Donovan, also chimed in on a possible relocation, and he recently told the media that there’s no guarantee the team will stay put in Kansas City.
“I just know that for us, the Chiefs, we have to look at all of our options,” Donovan said.
Tuesday will bring a lot of answers about this crazy story. If the vote goes in their favor, than all of this nonsense about relocation goes away, but if the vote goes against them, there will be real option on the table for the Chiefs to no longer be in Kansas City.
