As the NFL draft is fast approaching, many of the top prospects are conducting private workouts with the teams most interested in them. J.J. McCarthy has been quickly rising through the ranks of many draft boards, including perhaps being picked even in the top 5! Now there is a team that has a later draft pick that is having the quarterback prospect conduct a private workout with the team.
The Minnesota Vikings Are Hosting J.J. McCarthy For A Private Workout
The NFL quarterback prospect will allow the Minnesota Vikings to get a closer look at him ahead of the draft. According to Sports Illustrated‘s Albert Breer, there were will be a plethora of Vikings coaching staff that will be present for the private workout with J.J. McCarthy.
It is a long list of coaches and staff. Both quarterback coaches Josh McCown and Grant Udinski will attend the private workout as well as his pro day on Friday. Both the Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell and general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah will also be in attendance for the private workout so it should be quite a gathering to watch McCarthy.
Will The Minnesota Vikings Replace Kirk Cousins In The Draft
The team lost Kirk Cousins in free agency this off season, and they are looking for their next franchise quarterback. There is now a lot of hype building around the team taking McCarthy somewhere in the draft as they are the team with the highest betting odds to land the quarterback. They will probably have to trade up to get him though.
ESPN’s Matt Miller cited “considerable buzz” around Minnesota looking to move into the top five to snag a quarterback. As many of the quarterbacks will fall in the top five picks the team wants to jump in as high as possible to take a quarterback, most probably McCarthy. If this workout goes well, the team may pull the trigger and trade up in the draft to get their next franchise guy.
