NFL Fans reacted to the league’s harsh decision to ban the hip-drop tackle for the upcoming season. Make no mistake about it: the league sent a massive punishment to defenders way when they subjected players to fines for doing their job.
NFL players don’t want this rule
Numerous NFL defenders came out to advocate against the rule vocally. The NFLPA, the union representing league players, has come out against the rule. However, league owners decided to ban the play in the name of player safety for those on the offensive side of the ball.
Defenders will once again be asked to risk their health to protect players who want to score. Players who score make the league more money. An infraction of the hip-drop rule will count for 15 yards against the defense and an automatic first down for the offense. Defensive players who have committed the now illegal play will be subject to a fine.
