Since the dawn of NFL fantasy football, crafted individual team names have been a work of art reserved for the league’s most creative and clever members. Faux football owners try their hand at making quirky, funny, and or relevant team names in hopes that other fantasy owners will give them a tip of the cap. Over the years, there have been several, including “Hurts So Good,” “Gurley’s Gone Wild,” “Schaub Shank Redemption,” and “Holmes Sweet Holmes,” among others.

However, on Tuesday, some select NFLs were outraged after discovering that one specific name was on the ESPN banned list. Many heavily conservative-leaning Twitter accounts shared their disgust with ESPN banning the team name “White Lives Matter,” with a considerable amount of their followers sharing their disdain in the comments.

According to Libs of TikTok on X:

ESPN doesn’t let you use “White Lives Matter” as a fantasy sports team name because it contains “banned words,” but it’s totally fine with “Black Lives Matter.” Care to explain @ESPN?

Although team creativity is usually the goal when forming a unique fantasy football name, some have pivoted towards making a political statement in crafting theirs. On Wednesday, Libs of TikTok, Outkick, and MLFootball took to Twitter showing that fantasy football power ESPN has banned “White Lives Matter” as a team name, citing “team name/abbreviation contains banned word.”

Many fans fired back at ESPN through the comments, calling out the company for banning “White Lives Matter” but approving “Black Lives Matter.” Numerous National Football League devotees claimed ESPN to be racist, flooding the Twitter timeline with their thoughts and opinions on the media juggernaut’s recent decision:

Why is @espn supporting an organization that supports Marxist ideology????? https://t.co/iinCQeeo1y

Hi @ESPNFANSUPPORT I am just wondering why you can name your ESPN Fantasy Football team Black Lives Matter but if you try to name the team White Lives Matter it will not allow you because it "contains a banned word"??
