NFL fans were shocked, to say the least, hearing Daniel Jones effectively give a goodbye speech to the New York Giants on Thursday.
Jones was officially benched by the team, and he finally spoke to the media today about the situation. It really seems, especially after his media session, that his time with the Giants is over. Tommy Devito is going to take over at the quarterback position, and it seems that Jones will be on a different team next season.
Daniel Jones Sends Classy Message To New York Giants
Jones addressed the media after the team’s practice, and he was candid about his time in New York coming to a close. He gave a classy message and showed gratitude to the team and the owners for his time with the team:
“The opportunity to play for the New York Giants is truly a dream come true. I’m extremely grateful to the Mara and Tisch families for the chance to play here,” he began.
“The Giants are truly a first-class organization, and I have nothing but respect and appreciation for the people who have built it and who help carry on that tradition. I’ve met so many special people, and I’ve created relationships that will truly last a lifetime. Thank you to my coaches, teammates and staff that have done so much for me for the past six years.”
The benched quarterback even went on to say that he takes “full responsibility” for the way the team has played and the fact that they have not been winning games over the last few seasons. His remarks in general imply that he will no longer be on the team after this season and that this is the end of his time in New York.
Fans applauded his class, and while he has not been a great quarterback he has always had a great character:
“Whatever you think of him as a player, as a human his heart seems to be in the right place here. Hope he has some success at his next stop,” one fan said.
“appreciate you 8,” said another fan.
“He is a first-class guy. Wish him nothing but the best moving forward,” said one fan.
“You know what, respect to him for this cause they’re doing him foul,” another fan said.
“That’s my Quarterback. Giants did everything they could to screw him up,” one fan added.
“Daniel Jones is an easy target and he has not played well enough. We know that part. You can also see why he has so much respect from teammates around the locker room. Accountable and respectful during a tough week,” said ESPN’s Field Yates.
“Great dude, awful QB. Bring me Shedeur,” said another fan, ready for the Giants to move on to one of the best players in the 2025 NFL Draft.
While Jones’ time seems to be over in New York, there is certainly a chance that he will get an opportunity to play for another team next year.
