Arkansas Fans Want Change To The Program After A New Poll Shows They Are Done With What Is Going On

Arkansas is on the verge of becoming bowl-eligible with a win over Louisiana Tech this weekend, but going to a bowl game because you only have six wins is not what fans were hoping for.

When Sam Pittman took over as head coach of the Razorbacks in 2025, fans hoped they would return to winning meaningful football games. That never happened, and now fans want a change.

Arkansas went 4-8 last season, and the program brought back Pittman for 2024, which left fans angry. Even though their record improved this year, it doesn’t mean the program is heading in the right direction.

The Razorbacks pulled off a great win over Tennessee earlier this season, but they have only won one game since then, which came against the worst team in the SEC, Mississippi State.

Arkansas Fans Vote For Change

Jacob Davis, who covers Arkansas for Sports Illustrated, posted a poll on X with the question What’s your opinion of Arkansas Football? The three options to choose from were time for change, run it back for year six, indifferent, and time for change, won with 59% of the vote.

Clearly, Razorbacks fans don’t like the direction the team is heading, and why would they, given that the program looks like it will stay around .500 with Pittman as the head coach?

Arkansas should use this time to let go of the 62-year-old head coach and hire someone while they might be the only SEC job open this year, with Florida already coming out and saying they are keeping Billy Napier.

It will be interesting to see what the Razorbacks do this offseason, and hopefully, they make a change that will help them compete in the future.

I certainly don’t blame a lot of the fans for wanting a new coach, but here’s the big question. Who would want the job? No successful Power 4 coach would take it because it would be a step down. No up-and-coming mid-major coach would take it because they most likely would never get another shot at a Power 4 job if they fail, which they would likely do. I don’t think any successful Power 4 offensive or defensive coordinator would take the job because they would be in the same position as an up-and-coming mid-major coach. Fail and you’re done. We only hired Pittman because nobody else wanted the job. The only think that will enable Arkansas to be successful in the SEC is a lot more money for the players. As it is now, we simply can’t recruit as well as the big boys of the conference, and recruiting is half the battle.

I love polls that don’t reflect the entire fan base. I have and always will love arkansas football, but the problem now days is that everyone thinks a coach should win the national championship every year. Look at Alabama when Saban was there, they would lose one game and supposedly they were calling for him to be fired. Yes Arkansas has been down for awhile, but getting a new coach every other is not the answer. Pittman was given a really bad situation and has done all he can to make things right. He had a good team in his second year and last wasn’t very good. This year we have improved and is making sure things are getting better. My complaint is that whoever wrote this article is saying the whole fan base is done and that isn’t true. Real fans love the hogs and will cheer tfor them good or bad so get over yourself and stop thinking that to change coaches every year will make a difference.
