The NFL Combine is one of the biggest events in the NFL Draft, and many NFL teams are eager to see how some of the best rookies in the 2024 class will fare when set against the rigorous circuit of the combine.
However, the process isn’t something that rookies must participate in as it can also negatively affect their draft stock. For example, one rookie quarterback who is on the watchlist of many teams recently made a decision that will impact how the scouts will perceive his stock come April.
LSU’s Jayden Daniels to skip NFL Combine passing drills
Ian Rapaport broke the news that standout LSU QB Jayden Daniels will not be participating during the passing drills for the Combine, which may come as a disappointment to scouts and fans eager to watch him throw:

Jayden Daniels is one of the hottest prospects for this year’s draft after showcasing elite passing talent for the LSU Tigers last college football season. He ended his final year of eligibility with a solid stat line of 3812 passing yards and 40 TDs on 11.7 yards per attempt and a 208.0 passer rating.
While scouts and GMs would have liked to see him perform, his draft stock should remain high after the decision. After all, he’s an elite passer who’s shown he could stand out in a competitive conference like the SEC.
Does a poor Combine score affect a player’s NFL Draft stock?
The NFL Combine is a huge measuring stick that determines whether a player has the physical tools to thrive in the NFL. It’s important to note that it’s not the ultimate factor in determining a football player’s ability to thrive in the league.
The combine shouldn’t have any harsh effects on elite players like Jayden Daniels. However, players in the middle rounds who want to get selected could see their stock plummet to the ground if they scored poorly during the process.
For these players, losing millions in potential earnings because of poor combine scores is a real possibility. While there have been prospects who overcame this hurdle and enjoyed successful NFL careers, they’re more of an exemption than the rule.
