The NFL draft is fast approaching and the most interesting part of this years prospects are the plethora of quarterbacks. There are many notable prospects this year with Caleb Williams at the top of almost everyone’s list, and it will be fascinating to see which quarterbacks are taken in the first round of the draft. NBC Sports’ Chris Simms revealed his rankings for the quarterbacks in the draft and who he has at the bottom of his list is quite shocking
Chris Simms Ranks 2024 NFL Quarterback Draft Class
Simms created a tier list of the quarterbacks that he thinks can all go in the first round. He sees the quarterbacks going in this order, but his final tier is the most shocking. He obviously, like just about everyone else, has Caleb Williams at the very top of his list and follows Williams with LSU Heisman winner Jayden Daniels.
In a post on X, Simms ranked USC’s Caleb Williams in his “Tier 1 – A Class of His Own.” In “Tier 2 – #1 In Other Years” he had LSU quarterback and reigning Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels.
Simms views Daniels as a number one pick as well if he was drafted in any other year that would not have Caleb Williams as an option. As the draft gets closer Daniels stock seems to just be getting higher with many having him go number 2 overall to the Washington Commanders.
Tier Two Does Not Feature Drake Maye
In his second tier, Simms mentioned every other great prospect except for Drake Maye. Simms views Maye as the worst of the prospects that should go in the first round, which is quite the hot take given that many see Maye going in the top 3 picks of the draft.
“Tier 3 – Franchise Starting Quarterback” ranking: Oregon quarterback Bo Nix, Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy.
Finally Simms put Maye in his fourth tier calling that tier the “Talented Project.” While all the prospects in his tier 3 are great prospects, it is surprising that he put Maye below all of them. Almost every analyst has Maye going in the top three and at worst falling to the top five picks of the draft.
This is not the first time Simms has made a very hot (and wrong) take about quarterback prospects. One fan on X reminded everyone that Simms famously said that Zach Wilson was the best quarterback of his draft class which featured Trevor Lawrence.
