The Detroit Lions had their best season in 30 years and they are looking to come back and finish the job next year and get to a Super Bowl. This has been one of if not the best team at drafting in recent years and now they are looking to add a super star piece not coming from college, but rather from our neighbors in the north. The Lions are signing one of the best Canadian football stars to their team for the 2024 season.

The Detroit Lions were very close to playing in the Super Bowl this year and they have a bunch of young talent on both sides of the ball. They are already making moves to get back to that posittion next season and signing a big time player from the Canadian Football League in Mathieu Betts. His agent reported earlier today that the move was made saying:

“He had offers in both leagues and ultimately the fit in Detroit, they’ve had continued interest in him ever since he worked out for them,” Betts agent, Sasha Ghavami, told the Free Press. “There’s a really good fit. I think he fits the type of player they look for in terms of high-energy, high-motor, going to give it his all. And I think for him it was another opportunity to go in the NFL and make your way through it. He’s confident in his abilities and I think he just wants the opportunity.”

The Lions have one of the best rosters in football thanks to their genius Brad Holmes, and now they are looking to bolster the defense going in to next year.

Detroit Lions Are Inches From The Super Bowl

    NFL Detroit Lions, Dan Campbell
Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell speaks with the media, the day after losing the NFC championship game to the San Francisco 49ers, in a news conference in Allen Park on Monday, Jan. 29, 2024.

Dan Campbell did exactly what he said he would in his opening press conference and now the Lions are a team that will scare every NFC team next season. They should compete with a tougher division next season with the Packers on the rise and we’ll see where Kirk Cousins ends up, but the Lions have been building something for years now. They should be able to compete with anyone in the league next season and all of their young elite players will be a year older.

Betts will walk into one of the most talented and connected locker rooms and should easily be able to fit in with the culture and mentality this team has. This is also a need that the team is filling as their offense played exceptional all throughout the playoffs and they needed the defense to come along with them. Betts will be easy to root for as his story is one of perseverance and accomplishments. Betts was one of the best defenders in the CFL and now will try to do the same in the NFL.
