The Dallas Cowboys’ preseason finale on Saturday night did not exactly all go according to plan. While the Cowboys’ did manage to take down the Las Vegas Raiders, 31-16, to mark their one and only win of the preseason, it came at a price. This is after it was revealed that offensive lineman Josh Ball has been diagnosed with a hip injury that will keep him on the sidelines for a significant period.

Charean Williams of PFT reported on Monday that Josh Ball is now expected to miss extended time after suffering a concerning hip injury against the Raiders:

“Cowboys offensive lineman Josh Ball injured his hip in Saturday’s final preseason game. Coach Mike McCarthy said Monday that Ball’s injury is ‘significant’ and will cost him ‘multiple weeks,'” Williams wrote.

Ball isn’t exactly a star, but this development still does not bode well for Dallas’ offensive line ahead of the new season. This leaves the coaching staff with quite a conundrum with Ball now expected to miss the first few weeks of the new season.

Injuries have been a concern throughout Ball’s career. The 25-year-old missed his entire rookie season due to an ankle injury, so let’s just hope that this new injury does not cost him another year on the shelf.

It is worth noting that Ball is now entering the final two seasons of his four-year contract with the Cowboys. Unless he signs an extension, he will be an unrestricted free agent after the 2024 campaign.
