The NFL Combine is one of the places teams can get a closer look at how players perform. We’ve seen draft stock change drastically based on how players do at the event. Some bad news came out of the Combine today. Projected first-round pick Nate Wiggins was injured during his 40-yard dash.
CB Nate Wiggins Injured At NFL Combine
According to the NFL Network combine broadcast, #Clemson CB Nate Wiggins felt a groin “pop” and had to be helped to the training room after his 4.29 40-yard dash and is done for the day. Terrible news for a likely first round pick.

According to the NFL Network broadcast, Wiggins felt a pop after his 40-yard dash. He was helped to the training room and was done for the day. Initially, many wondered whether this would be a long-term recovery. That was put to bed by Wiggins himself. He spoke to NFL Network’s Stacey Dales after he saw the medical staff and said it was just a hip flexor. Nothing was torn, but it was a minor strain. He indicated he would be good to go for his Pro Day at Clemson.
Sigh Of Relief
It hasn’t been a good day to be a cornerback at the NFL Combine. Kool-Aid McKinstry has a Jones fracture in his foot, which evaluators found during his medical examination. Wiggins is the second player to pull out of doing drills due to injury. The good news for both is they do not seem like long-term issues. Both are expected to make full recoveries and be ready for training camp in August.
Even though Nate Wiggins indicated he would be fine, this is something to watch in the coming weeks. As his Pro Day gets closer, we will get a better idea of how severe the injury actually is.
