The NFL is reportedly going to investigate a new lawsuit being filed against Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson. Watson is now in the headlines again, not just for his awful play on the field, but for another disturbing sexual assault lawsuit filed against him.
The league will look into this and see if this warrants a suspension. Interestingly though, Mike Florio, who first reported this lawsuit, noted that the Browns could use this as an opportunity to cut ties with the quarterback and void his awful contract. Now there is one NFL journalist and host who suggested that the Browns organization leaked this story to get rid of him.
Dan Le Batard Thinks Cleveland Browns May Have Leaked The Stroy
Longtime sports talk host Dan Le Batard was putting on his conspiracy theory cap, and is starting to think that perhaps this leak came at just too perfect of a time for the Browns.
The new case that Watson is facing accuses him of sexual assault in 2020, and Watson had more than 20 other women accuse him of similar crimes. Le Batard, however, suggested that the Cleveland Browns’ organization may be the ones responsible for this story leaking. This would all be in order to get rid of this contract that is destroying their team.
The Browns gave Watson a $230 million contract and in the next two seasons, it’s going to be a monstrous cap hit. Dan suggested that the team may hate the contract so much that they leaked the story in order to cut him.
“The number of people who will defend this behavior if they think their quarterback is good, and then the strategic leaking of stuff that makes you wonder, are they trying to get out from under the contract … it’s pretty gross,” Le Batard said this week, via Awful Announcing.
“The finances of this [are] so cold and awful that you’re now like, oh the Browns are going to try and see if they can sneak away from everything there when they shouldn’t be able to.”
While it seems like an absolutely crazy thing for the Browns to do when it comes to this amount of money anything is possible.
Either way, the news is now out there, and the league is going to investigate. If the league gives him a suspension, no matter who leaked the news, the Browns can take advantage of it and void themselves of this brutal contract.
