The Cleveland Browns may have the opportunity to cut their quarterback Deshaun Watson and void his future contract at the same time. This is something that all the fans seem to want as well, as Watson has been abysmal in his Browns tenure. The team is incredible outside of him, and he takes up a colossal amount of cap space.

Now, Watson is facing another lawsuit for similar charges as the more than 20 that he faced back in 2021.

Deshaun Watson Faces New Disturning Lawsuit

Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson (4) hangs his head as he walks off the field during the first half of an NFL football game at Huntington Bank Field, Sunday, Sept. 8, 2024, in Cleveland, Ohio.

As discussed on Gridiron Heroics previously, Watson is facing a new charge of sexual battery and assault. The details are incredibly disturbing per Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio. This entire alleged assault is eerily similar to the 20-plus that he faced back in 2021, and the NFL could deal him a very serious suspension because of it.

Watson faced over a year out of the league previously, and could certainly be dealt serious punishment by the league for this new lawsuit. Watson has, long ago, run out of any type of trust regarding these matters, and because of what transpired in 2021, he could easily face punishment by the league for this.

This is something that the Cleveland Browns can take advantage of. If Watson gets a suspension then the team can cut him and void the rest of his awful contract.

Per Florio, in the same article, the Browns have a way out of this awful contract and player in Watson.

This new lawsuit will raise many new issues and with that a suspension:

“This new case raises plenty of issues, from the standpoint of the league and the Browns,” Florio writes. “It’s possible that Watson could be subject to further scrutiny under the Personal Conduct Policy. It’s also possible that a suspension — if one is imposed — could give the Browns a path toward voiding his remaining salary guarantees and ending the relationship.”

As Florio says, if Watson faces punishment from the NFL, the team can use this to void the rest of the contract with him and be done with him as Brown forever. We will have to wait and see what the league will do in light of this new lawsuit, but it is highly probable that Watson will face punishment given the long history of previous lawsuits.

It already seems that Cleveland is looking to take the steps to get out of this contract they are just waiting for any opening. Browns fan are done with Watson, and in the very near future, the team can be too.
