The San Francisco 49ers kick off their season on September 10 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. That’s now just a little over two weeks away but at this point, the Niners are still missing a key player in their squad. Nick Bosa has yet to conclude his contract holdout with the team as both sides continue to negotiate what could make the All-Pro DE the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history.
Kyle Shanahan Says 49ers Won’t Trade Nick Bosa
The 49ers obviously want to keep Bosa on board, but with the holdout lasting this long, there have already been whispers about a potential trade for the reigning Defensive Player of the Year.
Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan has unequivocally shut down these rumors by saying that the team has no intention of trading their star defensive lineman:
“No, I feel pretty strongly and I think everyone would agree with that,” Shanahan said (h/t Nick Wagoner of ABC News.
San Francisco general manager John Lynch echoed Shanahan’s statement by also ending any and all speculation about Bosa’s rumored move away from the 49ers: “No,” Lynch said. “Real simple.”
Kyle Shanahan Speaks Out on Nick Bosa’s Contract Saga
Now that that’s out of the way, there’s still a matter of Bosa’s massive extension that needs to be settled. Shanahan got brutally honest when asked about the current conundrum as the 49ers shot-caller revealed his desire to get this saga over and done with:
“I thought it would come probably at this time, just looking at the history of those things,” Shanahan said. “And I’m really hoping it gets done. I know they’re working tirelessly at it … but hopefully we can get him in here sooner than later.”
“… You guys know how we feel about Nick, and we all know how good of a player he is. Hopefully we can come to terms soon and get him here as fast as possible.”
For his part, it does feel like Nick Bosa doesn’t want to leave either. However, he has a fairly good idea of how much he is worth, and what is clear is that the 25-year-old won’t be settling for a contract that he feels fails to meet the same.
