After predicting the AFC conference this week, today I switch over to the NFC. I think the AFC is the tougher conference between the two, but there are some really good teams in the NFC. Like most years, it should be a competitive race to see who represents the NFC in the Super Bowl. Here are my NFC predictions for the 2024 NFL season.
2024 NFC Division Predictions: NFC East
- Philadelphia Eagles: 11-6 (Playoffs)
- Dallas Cowboys: 11-6 (Playoffs)
- New York Giants: 7-10
- Washington Commanders: 6-11
I think the NFC East is a two team race and it will be all season. Both Philadelphia and Dallas are two fot he better teams. They have young talent on both sides of the ball. On the other had, New York and Washington seem to be a few years away.
The division could come down to week 17 as the Eagles and Cowboys will face off in Philadelphia. Unless there are injuries to key players, both team should make the postseason. I’ll go with the Eagles this year to win the NFC East.
NFC North
- Detroit Lions: 12-5 (Playoffs)
- Green Bay Packers: 11-6 (Playoffs)
- Chicago Bears: 9-8
- Minnesota Vikings: 8-9
Just like the NFC East, I think the NFC North will be a two team race as well. The Packers have a lot to prove this year as they finished the season hot last year, but did start off slow. Detroit was the team to beat early on and ran away with the division a year ago.
I would not sleep on the Vikings. I do have them finishing 8-9, but they have the best offensive weapons in the division. The question will be how long do they stick with Sam Darnold before giving the keys to rookie J.J. McCarthy. The Bears also seems a year or two away with top overall pick Caleb Williams starting right away. The NFC North should be really good for years to come.
NFC South
- Atlanta Falcons: 9-8 (Playoffs)
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers: 8-9
- New Orleans Saints: 7-10
- Carolina Panthers: 5-12
Overall, this is not a very good division. Tampa Bay won the NFC South last year with Baker Mayfield having a great year. I think they still have the best receivers in the division, but Atlanta adding Kirk Cousins in free agency. I think that is the difference. Cousins will be the best quarterback in this division.
We know what Derek Carr is in New Orleans. He is an average quarterback at best. You need your signal caller to take that next step late in the season. Carr has not proven that yet in his decade in the league. Carolina is young and getting better, but that project is still at least a few seasons away from competing.
NFC West
- San Francisco 49ers: 13-4 (Playoffs)
- Los Angeles Rams 10-7 (Playoffs)
- Seattle Seahawks: 8-9
- Arizona Cardinals: 4-13
The NFC still runs through San Francisco. The Brandon Aiyuk contract situation is worth monitoring as he can be one their biggest playmakers. Brock Purdy is still on his rookie contract so the Niners have been able to lock up expensive players. I don’t think San Francisco is invisible as they were really fortunate to beat Green Bay and Detroit to get to the Super Bowl last season. I do think they get the top seed in the postseason.
The Rams have a great receiver duo in Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua. The health of Matthew Stafford is key to this team as he has had an injury history lately. If he can stay on the field, this is a playoff team.
Playoff Seedings
- San Francisco
- Detroit
- Philadelphia
- Atlanta
- Green Bay
- Dallas
- Los Angeles
