Training camp opens up in a few weeks for just about every NFL Team. The AFC appears to be the better conference. Team like the Baltimore Ravens and the Kansas City Chiefs should headline the AFC. On the other hand, teams like Buffalo, the New York Jets, and Miami believe they can make a run this season too. At the end of the day, only seven teams make it to the playoffs. Here is how I see the AFC divisions playing out this year.
AFC Division Standings Predictions- AFC East

- Miami Dolphins: 11-6 (playoffs)
- New York Jets: 10-7 (playoffs)
- Buffalo Bills: 10-7 (playoffs)
- New England Patriots: 5-12
I understand everything about Aaron Rodgers. As a Packers fan, I am well away what he’s been the past handful of off-seasons. It’s also not ideal to be coming off a serious injury at age 39. On the other hand, I have seen Rodgers play great with a handful of injuries. If he can stay behind center and play 17 games, the Jets have talent and firepower on both sides of the ball to make the playoffs.
I think this is the year Miami wins the AFC East. I really like their running game and their wide receiver duo of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. The loss of Stefon Diggs and other members of the Buffalo defense will hurt the Bills, I think they are still a good team and that’s why I have three teams in this division making the AFC playoffs.
AFC North

- Baltimore Ravens: 12-5 (playoffs)
- Cincinnati Bengals: 11-6 (playoffs)
- Cleveland Browns: 9-8
- Pittsburgh Steelers: 8-9
This is probably the best division not only in the AFC, but in the entire NFL. I don’t think there is a bad team in this division. Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow, when healthy, are two of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. The Ravens always have a great defense and enough offensive weapons to win games.
The health of Burrow will determine if Cincinnati makes the postseason. He has had season ending injuries in two of his first four seasons. Zac Taylor has to find a way to keep Burrow upright in games. If they can, the Burrow-Chase duo alone keep the Bengals in games and win games.
AFC South

- Houston Texans: 11-6 (playoffs)
- Jacksonville Jaguars: 9-8
- Tennessee Titans: 8-9
- Indianapolis Colts: 6-11
The Houston Texans should run away with the AFC South. I think there is a big gap between them and the other three teams. The Texans added veterans Joe Mixon and Stefon Diggs to add more to their explosive offense. If CJ Stroud is anything like they were last season. Houston can win more than 11 games.
The other three teams are interesting. I don’t know enough about Tennessee and Indianapolis to say they will contend for a playoff spot because of the uncertainty at quarterback. I like the talent for Jacksonville, but I think because the AFC is so loaded, I think they draw the short end of the stick.
AFC West

- Kansas City Chiefs: 12-5 (playoffs)
- Los Angeles Chargers: 9-8
- Las Vegas Raiders: 6-11
- Denver Broncos: 4-14
At this point, Kansas City is a guaranteed AFC West division winner. Like Houston, I don’t see them being challenged for the division title. Not as long as Patrick Mahomes is the quarterback.
The Chargers are an interesting team like Jacksonville. I really like Justin Herbert and the work they have done on the offensive line the last few drafts. The running game does concern me though. I think this is a team that falls just a little short in a loaded AFC.
Playoff Teams
- Kansas City
- Baltimore
- Houston
- Miami
- Cincinnati
- New York Jets
- Buffalo
