The New York Jets are doing what they can to try to salvage the 2023 NFL season. Trying to figure out who your starting quarterback in Week Four was not on the Jets’ plans after trading for four-time MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
However, with Zach Wilson’s poor play through the first three weeks, many are calling for the Jets to make a move. The Jets recently DID sign a quarterback, and he spoke with the media about the starting job.
New York Jets Newest QB Trevor Siemian Speaks To The Media About His Plans On This Team
The veteran quarterback practiced in Florham Park one day after signing a Practice Squad deal with the New York Jets. He spoke about what he expects to do this year:
“Just giving him the ability to come on to the practice squad and help us out was the best decision for us,” said third-year head coach Robert Saleh.

“I didn’t have a lot of expectations [of having the chance to play]. No promises were given or anything like that,” said Siemian, who entered the league as a seventh-round draft pick by the Denver Broncos in 2015. “These guys had two quarterbacks. They needed a third quarterback. I had some good conversations and here I am.”
“As a backup quarterback in this league that’s kind of your challenge, is how fast you can pick things up,” said Siemian. “I’m anxious to get started, get the verbiage, get to know my teammates a little, so definitely not overnight.”
While the Jets have struggled for basically three weeks (despite winning in Week One), Zach Wilson continues to start at quarterback. As reported by Brian Costello, Jets head coach Robert Saleh reiterated the team will continue to play Zach Wilson.
Wilson, who replaced the injured Rodgers in Week 1, was swarmed by the New England Patriots defense in Week Three. His total completions were 18 of 36 for 157 yards and three sacks (including one that resulted in a safety). The Wilson-led offense produced seven three-and-outs. During the fourth quarter, he was harshly booed for completing a two-yard completion to Tyler Conklin on a fourth-and-10.
