The New York Jets addressed one of their offensive needs in free agency by signing a reliable wide receiver in Mike Williams.
Williams is rehabbing from the torn ACL he suffered in Week 3 against the Minnesota Vikings. He had a chance to talk with reporters, and he gave a promising injury update.
The New York Jets wide receiver gave a promising injury update.
Williams told reporters he is “right on schedule.”
“I’m about 4.5 months out, right on schedule. My main focus is just coming in every day, putting in the work, and just continue to grind. That’s my thing. Everything is on schedule. Everything is looking good. So just keep the main thing the main thing, and that’s to continue to get it better every day and just focus on that.”
It’s unclear whether he’ll be ready for Week 1, but playing in Week 1 is his goal.
Mike Williams had a solid career with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Los Angeles drafted Williams in the 1st round, 7th overall of the 2017 NFL Draft. Williams turned into a reliable number two option for Keenan Allen, playing in 88 games, starting 62, and had 309 receptions on 512 targets for 4,806 yards and 31 touchdowns, reaching 1,000 yards twice (2019 and 2021) and leading the league in yards per reception in 2019.
Williams was in the last year of his 3-year, $60 million contract and had a cap hit of $32.5 million for 2024. Because the team needed to clear up cap space, they cut him so they could save $20 million.
New York finally gets a reliable number two option for their elite receiver.
New York has finally found a reliable number two option for Garrett Wilson after struggling to build around him in his first two seasons.
Corey Davis and Elijah Moore didn’t pan out in Wilson’s rookie season. As a result, Moore was traded to Cleveland, and Davis retired before the start of the 2023 season and unretired not too long ago.
Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb didn’t pan out in Wilson’s second season, as both were healthy scratches at some point, and Jason Brownlee and Xavier Gipson struggled to fill the void.
When will Mike Williams be ready next season?
